Tempi’s Speach

Thank you for welcoming us back. My name is Tempi and I am the president of AlohaEigoNPO. It is always wonderful to visit the beautiful area of Itogon, and meet new friends in the countryside.  I am excited that five voting members of our NPO board have joined us this trip to see first-hand the work we do in the Philippines. Ryoka, Akiko, Takao, and David. David is sick today and hopefully will be back tomorrow.  They help me raise money for scholarships at this school, and rice for families living in the slums of Manila. Clarissa also joins us on these trips, as she also does relief work in the Angeles City area.
I am here today, because I grew up like many of you, in the countryside in a tiny house with no electricity or bathroom, born to a 16 year old single mother.  I never forgot how difficult life was then.
Honestly, I am not naturally a very intelligent person. I got very poor grades in school. The only thing I have going for me is I studied and worked very hard to escape my impoverished life.  Despite getting poor grades all through junior high and high school, I never gave up and kept studying on my own at home after school. My senior year, I was rewarded by scoring high on the college entrance exam, and earned a scholarship to university.
No matter how bad you think your life is now, or even if you think you are too stupid, as I thought I was all of my youth, never give up fighting for your future.
In June 2020, we are going to return to Alejo M Pacalso school to help many of you.  We are going to help with school fees for 20 students each grade 8th to 12th, based on your family’s financial need, as well as on your achievement in class.  Only those who study hard will get help. We want to help create doctors, engineers, lawyers, and nurses, so that one day, you can come back and help future students.
For those wanting to go to university, we will give a few 20,000peso scholarships, depending on how many donors we can find in Japan, entrance exam scores and chosen field of study, renewed annually if our donors continue to help, and you work hard in school, and with volunteer work.
We are helping university students as an investment into the future of the Philippines.  It is our hope that you will continue our charity work once you start your new lives and have a rewarding career.  After we leave Itogon on Friday, we will be helping families sleeping in garbage dumps in Tondo, Manila. They sleep in garbage, play in garbage, and eat garbage thrown away.  Their children have never been to school and have no future, as their parents before them did not. We are diverting funds from them, to help you. So, please do your best to take advantage of this help.  We are taking four students who graduated last year from Alejo M Pacalso to Tondo Manila to see this very sad place in person this weekend, and assist in giving mothers rice.
One last thing about success in life.  I am friends with many of you on Facebook.  I love your pictures and watching the progress of your lives.  I also see many posts talking about how sad and difficult your lives are.  I must tell you, We create our own lives through the way we think. Think always about happy things and understand that you live in a beautiful region of the Philippines with clean air, fresh food, honest people, nice friends, a good school, and a chance at a happy life.  All successful people keep to positive thinking, only using negative experience as a fire in their heart to fight harder.
