This 10 day trip to Tondo we expanded our influence into two new areas. Because of an emergency need in the Aroma slum, due to a devastating fire that left 600 families without their already few possessions and meager sleeping space, our focus was on relieving suffering here.
今回のトンドへの10日間の旅で、私達は支援エリアを新たに2つのエリアに広げました。なぜなら、アロマスラムが破壊的な火災により600もの家族が財産も寝る場所もなく残されている状況で、急を要していたため、私達はまずここから彼らの苦痛を取り除けるようサポートに重視した。
Once again, we had a Japanese volunteer join us for four days of the trip. The children in Manila are familiar with Japanese anime, and so get very excited meeting Japanese people, because so few travel to this area.
今回も日本人ボランティアが4日間参加してくれました。マニラの子供達は日本のアニメに親しみがあり、このエリアには日本人の旅行者が少ないため、子供達は日本の人々に会うことをワクワクしています。
This was our first trip up the notorious Smokey Mountain made completely of Manila’s garbage. 200 families live here and struggle even more than those living in neighboring slums. Until recently, the children did not even have clothing to protect their bodies from the poison in the soil.
マニラ全体のゴミからできている悪評高いスモーキーマウンテンには、200もの家族が暮らしており、隣のスラム街の人々よりもさらに苦しい生活を強いられていた。つい最近まで、子供達は土壌汚染から身を守る衣服さえ持っていない状況だった。
Over the years, we have had a challenging time finding honest charity partners in The Philippines. On this trip, we met Loving Street Children, an energetic sincere young group with a similar vision to ours. We are going to work together to build a school on top of Smokey Mountain for foreign and local volunteers to help the children prepare for a better future.
一年が過ぎ、困難ではあるが、私達はフィリピンで誠実な慈善団体を探している状況ですが、今回の旅で、ロビングストリートチルドレンという私達とビジョンが似ているエネルギッシュで誠実な若者の団体に出会った。私達は彼らと共に海外と現地のボランティアの力を借りて、子供達のより良い未来のためにスモーキーマウンテンのトップに学校を建てるつもりです。
For the first time also, we had four wonderful cash donors who contributed a total of 90,000円, allowing us to feed far more people than ever before. Thank you Akiko Okano, Hiromi Takahashi, Kazuko Takahashi, and Mimi Yokota.
また、当初より貢献してくださっている4人の寄贈者の皆様のおかげで、総額90,000円の寄付金が集まりました。
